    This is a so called dollar HK-493, only 100 minted by Medallic Art Co., for Thomas Elder, back in the day Thomas Elder was a rock star in the coin world aka: coin star! lol.gif Anyways I bought this a little over a year ago, had it tested it's 18k which is good but it's a little guy, 15mm and only 1.75 grams. So to get to my point, anyone ever see one of these in a Capital Holder like this? Strange holder as normally you can unscrew the plastic screws and open these up but not this one. I'm thinking maybe they were sold in these holders, hopefully someone here knows? I hate to break it open to have it graded but maybe I have no choice. Anyone? :D

    GOLD 117.21 per gram now, but that's worth a lot more.
    There are 3 listed on flea bay now.

    @fretboard
    I would leave it as is.

    Quick check shows gold per gram $117.85 (24K) making the tokens melt value $132.58 at 18K (.750). This is changing by the hour.

    As noted by @dwhiz with only 100 made the rarity is very high so worth more numismatically, I don’t know what that value range would be.

    I don’t use FleaBay for anything as I don’t trust any of the information they spew, but you could peruse their listings just to get an idea what someone else is trying to sell one for if you believe their data.

    Nice token, btw, I have only one proof set in a Capital holder and it is the sealed kind. How did you determine the weight and purity if it hasn’t been cracked out yet? Previous data? Was the purity test made through the plastic?

    My recommendation is NOT to open; leave it as is. Hope this helps you place a value on it even if you don’t plan on selling it. I’m presuming this is so since you just acquired it. Hang on to it for a few days and with gold price escalations going on currently, you will have to recalculate all of this next week…Spark

    The link shows one that sold yesterday for $705, the going rate is $700 to $850. It's all about the rarity scale and being only 100 minted! thumbsup.gif

    It's already in plastic. I would leave it as it is, no chance of damaging it if you leave it. I strongly suspect that you have one of the few remaining in a batch made in the 1950's by someone. You might find in years to come that the Capital holder actually improves its value in its own right. Nice token and thanks for sharing.

    Yep you're right on the money the plastic has protected it all these years so that's where it's gonna stay. thumbsup.gif
