I have a BEP strap of 2017A New York two dollar star notes but I don't understand how to tell if they are COPE or LEPE. The number on the left is G4 and the number on the right is fwG36, the serial numbers start with B09210201* to B09210300* can you tell me which type they are or how I can properly see for myself which they are. Also the number on the back of the notes range between 17 and 22. Thank you in advance for your help. Rob
Looks like they're LEPE. If they were COPE, the position should be G2, not G4. To figure this sort of thing out, you have to do some math with the serial number and the plate position. The gory details are here if you want to mess with it.
For someone who's a paper money dummy, tell me what COPE and LEPE mean? Edit: I looked at the link above. Aha.
Almost certainly neither. I don't think very many collectors care about the COPE vs. LEPE distinction. And if they someday do, the modern print runs of 6.4 million notes are large enough that even if we saw an extreme case where a series had only one COPE run (or only one LEPE run), that run still wouldn't be scarce in any absolute sense.
