In my images above, I did the merging and added the gradient backgrounds and slab labels myself. @messydesk did the raw photography while I did the post-editing. I used Lunapic.

How do you find Lunapic to use? Is it easy? Have you used other programs?

I'm a software idiot and never could figure out Photoshop. I love Lunapic. Sure, it takes some getting used to, but it packs a TON of features and it's all free- online- no download.

You're a programmer, so Imagemagick is right up your alley. It sounds interesting. How complicated is it to use? Do you need to be a programmer or does that just help?

It helps, but probably more with respect to building automated stuff around it than using it. I have shell scripts that do a lot of stuff that someone who isn't familiar with programming would not be able to create. I've been meaning to convert to Python, but I haven't had the chance. There are plenty of tutorials and Q&A available. It's entirely command line -- no GUI. There's a bit of a learning curve, but once you figure it out it can save you a ton of time if you find yourself repeating a lot of the same actions in Photoshop or equivalent. It's probably worth investing a little time investigating if it's for you or not. It might be worth it just for simple things, like converting between file types or resizing an image.
