Coin I received from Agora up for sale at V-coins???

What gives? Sergey Nechayev is selling this coin at V-coins, a denarius of Julia Maesa with the IVNO reverse type with a die-clash on the reverse.

What's the problem? THIS is the coin I have in my possession, which I purchased from Agora Auctions just before Christmas:

It's not just a die match; it's the exact same coin!!!

What's up with this? Is it just that Nechayev sold it through Agora and hasn't removed it from the V-coins site? I don't believe mine is a cast copy, either.

Have you written Sergey regarding the coin? I agree, it is the exact same coin, not just a die match or a cast. The toning(look near the lips, behind the head) proves this. It is almost certainly a listing error. Maybe Sergey forgot to remove it after it was sold or any other number of things.

I sent an inquiry though V-coins to Sergey, but haven't heard back yet (not enough time). I'll let you know what Sergey says.

I found an Anglo Saxon I purchased last week (not via V-coins) up for sale last night on V-Coins. Same coin. No doubt. I think it is just a matter of the seller not updating listings on the site. Some poor sucker is going to get bad news if they try and execute a purchase.

I think I have a case of coin left on the Vcoin site after purchased I think it's been there for about five years, I purchased this Septimius Severus Nikopolis Ad Istrum AE27 from Ancient Imports mid 2013, around the same time I noticed this other one that looked identical. Below is mine part of the Ray Wilk collection and cleaned up. 27.32mm, 13.39gm, Moushmov 931. 2015-01-07 01.07.48-10.jpg And now the one on the Vcoin site below. Ancient Coin Art. What do you guys think? 4b3EPn5z8ZfJss7XcRD392NaCHt6q9.jpg

close, but i don't think they are an exact match. (reverse under arch isn't quite the same to me)

This happens from time to time, more so the larger ones inventory is. I've done the same thing and appreciate it when its brought to my attention. Sometimes its embarrassing. I recently bought a coin from another dealer for $185 which I listed for $250 (it's very rare). Turns out it was still in yet another dealers listing (but at $75!). Maybe I overpaid, I dont know. It is rare....

I think the best way is for one of us to try and buy it $275, I would but I already got one, mine cost $78. :D:D:D

I think they're not the same coin. However, those flans are the exact same shape, so I fear one or both are cast fakes.

Well we we know at least it sold for $75 at some stage......you probably know better than me it doesn't always matter if a coin is rare or not, it has more to do with is anyone interested in the coin. As my example below is very rare but I bought it for $78 after being turned down at auction and sitting in Ancient Imports site for ages, but I LOVE it.

Actually I didn't mention early on but a moderator on Facebook Roman Provincial Coins bought it up when I posted it that he knew mine was the one on the Vcoins site and when Ray Wilk bought it and cleaned it up and he has contacted Ancient Coin Art a couple of times to query why it is still on there site with no reply.

Ohhhhh. I see now. Ray bought it, Ancient Coin Art never marked it as sold, Ray tried to improve the coin, then consigned it to Ancient Imports, and then you bought it?

I think that's what happened, and the slight differences you see are a combination of cleaning/lighting. Out of interest they have another one on site might be the same reverse die not sure haven't spent a lot of time with it.

When I had a website on Scottish coins I would find them up for sale on eBay from time to time, heck some "sellers" even had the audacity to use my image with the watermark on it. The ones that really stood out are the couple of coins I have that only three of the type are known.

I think that it's not the same coin. Look at the nose in both coins and see the difference. Hope I'm right. Good luck anyway..

I heard back from Sergey and he says that is indeed the same coin and that he forgot to update the V-coins listing to reflect that it had been sold.
