Doubling is caused by a Deteriorated Die.
There are many examples like your Cent known.

Paddy, you forgot to mention that the correct terminology is "doubled die" not double die. Have you come to the conclusion that this is a worthless cause?:banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead:

    First, welcome to the neighborhood!

If Paddy had a penny for every time he has had to "spell it out" to newcomers about the incorrect use of "double die", he would be a very, very rich man.

I had a headache this morning...
Just a little information I provide newcomers who use the word Double Die..
    It goes like this -
The correct terminology is Doubled Die, not Double.
Quote - "Note that the proper terminology for this occurrence includes the letter 'd' at the end of the first word, hence "doubled die". The term "double die" without the first word ending in 'd' is not proper numismatic terminology." closed quote.
I want to share this webpage with you -

Please, do not apologize for something you didn't know. At one time or another, we have all learned something from another member, regardless of how long we've been collecting. :)

As a wheat back it is worth more than 1 cent. And the steelies carry a premium.
    15-25 cents depending on condition.
With the S mints worth more.

It could be up in MS67. We'd need photos, not scans, of both sides.
