Toning Paying for Color

    Exactly. Premium? It's slightly too dark and I would not have bought it. And yes, I have paid up to 10x (?) price guide for a nicely toned coin.

    @jfscmedic you may want to watch out for lighter toned coins, they're out there ;-)

    It's all in the eye of the beholder, because I don't really care for that toning either.

    It's not just about the toning, it's also about luster, strike, bag marks, etc - that's why this coin is a 66 and not a 64. A coin with dark toning usually doesn't have such a great luster.

    I agree with you on that, higher grade of course is always better. But I thought we were just talking about toning here? lol

    Both coins are nice, and I would gladly take either :)
