Some people ONLY trust eBay. I had a guy contact me to buy a coin he liked on my website, but stated he would not buy it unless it was on eBay... even though I accept PayPal on my site! He literally paid more for the coin so he could do it on eBay. Now, maybe he made some off of eBay Bucks, but he specifically told me he does not deal with anyone on coins unless it's in person or on eBay.
I mean it makes sense, there's more protection when you go through eBay but for the case of this thread, I don't think that's what people are doing. If Daniel Carr himself was selling them on eBay that would make sense. But for these guys who have been posting them on eBay, that's not their responsibility simply because others only trust eBay. They are doing it for the money, simple as that.
No, my point is that some people don't buy from websites like Dan's for fear/safety reasons, so they'll wait until they hit eBay then buy em.... for more if they have to.
I understand that but again those are the BUYERS. You really think there's people out there who are thinking, "let me buy a lot of these peace dollars and sell them on eBay because there are people who don't trust Dan's website and I just want to be nice and give everyone a chance to get some" I think that's stretching it a little. The more believable reason is they are just trying to make a profit..
Yes. Some people do do that. They also buy 3 or 4 to sell 2 or 3 and get the other for free. There's a guy on this forum or another who likes Carr items but won't buy them because he doesn't buy from websites even though he knows Dan is upstanding and will refund or exchange with no questions. He just doesn't like buying from websites. Strange but to each their own. That said, the vast majority of pieces Dan sells never leave a collection. He minted almost 2k 64d peace dollars and maybe you'll find one or two for sale at any given time. Same with the 2009 proofed silver eagle. He made over 4k of those and only a few are available at any given time.
It hurts me to have to break this to you, but most of the people and businesses from whom you'll ever buy anything are trying to make a profit.
Thanks - odd. I had searched for 1917 Carr (and both of those are also in the titles) and they didn't show up. Shows you once again how broken eBay is.
I think the seller just wants to get as much as possible out of them.(who wouldn't ?) He is however, risking his profit, because someone else ( another flipper/s ) could slip in and sell theirs a little cheaper maybe ?
I don't know and I don't care!! All I know is I hope Dan replies to my email because I'm trying to get another one added to my order lol.
Did you get your shipping confirmation for the first order yet ? I haven't. I guess not, if you are asking to add to it. Duh.
Nope nothing yet, if I have to ill just buy another and pay for shipping again, just wanted to see if I could avoid that. No clue when he is gonna stop selling them so I don't know how much time I have left.
I'm sure that they'll be gone by the time I get some spare cash. ( tax return ) oh well. One is good.
Sometimes it takes a while for these to ship. Some of my Carr orders have shipped within a week of purchase while others have taken multiple weeks. That might be another reason for the higher ebay prices. This actually happened with the US Mint Baseball Commemorative Coins in 2014. The mintages were very high (750,000 clad; 400,000 silver; 50,000 gold), but the mint took forever to ship them out. The people who got their coins in early were partly able to realize large gains due to the (temporary) low supply (the design, first-ever curved coins by the US Mint, and early sell-out of the gold also impacted prices).
I can see that from a buying standpoint, there is a value to the extra layer of protection for people that are nervous about buying online. Depending on the timing he may have had some eBay bucks or a coupon as well, it is possible even though the price was higher his out of pocket ended up being cheaper
