I've used both and far prefer Verdicare. I only tried Ren Wax in the very beginning and decided it is too risky, possibly trapping moisture inside a coin (could cause/accelerate corrosion). Also, removing wax is a hassle, should the need to remove it arise (such as the appearance of BD/corrosion under the wax).
Thanks @TIF and @Smojo, I will try it! It looks to me like the Verdicare changes the appearance(waxy) more so than Ren Wax. I completely dry before application and it it is actually easy to remove.
Nice tets, Jwt! With all those resounding endorsements (thanks, all!), I will have to get some Verdi-care. Unfortunately it looks like Wizard won't ship to Canada. Anybody know of a Canadian supplier? Otherwise looks like I'm paying C$50 on eBay.
Badthad is a member here on CT, he created it. Try PMing him. $50 is way to much when you can get 60 ml for about $20.
Thank you! Have any friends in the U.S.? Have them mail it to you. I would do it but I'm still in England.
Thanks! Yes I do; I hate to trouble them, but I may well take this route. I've also messaged BadThad as per @Smojo's suggestion. I'll get my hands on some by hook or... well, by hook.
I'll be ordering some within the next week or so, close to being out. If you have any problems I'd be happy to help out. Wizards is who I use.
this is the ae i have , but i had a fellow in COINS tell me it was fake. i said it could be and now i'm thinking it is. its almost perfect and now i notice( giving it the Missouri twice over) different colors on the edge. what do you think?( i'll not be insulted) and i'd like to order some of that stuff for ae coins badthad makes. if you all swear by it, its gotta be good!
Reply #28 Iamtiberiuos posted the same type. You may want to compare yours to his. I'm no expert, but yours looks a little soft, but it could be your pics. Measure & weigh it. Should be between 16-18mm and around 5 grams.
From your photo (or any photo) I find it difficult to tell either way...but I don't see anything that jumps up at me to say FAKE other than the style/strike seems a bit too good as you mentioned (but I'm DEFINITELY not an expert LOL). MY example was an AE-16 of 5.5 grams.
i'm no expert either, but what do you think about the edges being of different colors? plus seems to be "too perfect", i'm either full guns for or against, or sitting on this fence leaning. i haven't got a weight scale. it's ae 16 i believe. and it would cost as much as the coin did to have NGC look @ it. thanks for the feedback Mikey.
Well, since nobody except Mikey replied I might as well throw my two cents at it. But I've got to add again I'm far from an expert. I'm on the fence with it but because we're looking at a picture and not in hand. First, I don't find the edge color cause for a red flag. It seems I've seen some authentic coin's similar. But looking at your photo I see 3 dots then it looks like at about 2 o'clock there could be more. I don't know from pics. Second the obverse pic is fuzzy, out of focus. It's off center but not terribly so. The strike is almost to perfect. The reverse winged thunderbolt for some reason hits my eyes funny. The club and bow show wear but the rest looks really good. Even with all of this I can not say it's either authentic or fake. Invest in a decent digital scale. You can find them cheap enough under $20 at Harbor Freight. I use a jewelers scale but years ago I was fortunate enough to have an acquaintance give it to me & was also able to upgrade it. Sorry to leave you with remaining doubt on your A III.
thanks for the feedback, even NGC leaves room for error when they grade. so it's always a "coin toss", leaning 1 way or another with percentages, and discussion is what this is about. HF's got'em? kool, i've bought alot of stuff from them. i'll check into that. thanks for the info.
I love these Alexander III bronzes! It is one of the few European types that I can share with you guys.
