So, I was lucky enough to be the first person spotting a set of five Peace dollars for $45 + $5.00 shipping BIN. I've ordered from the same guy before; package gets dropped off in Texas, two days to get to a facility near me in NC, then I receive it the following day.

Here's the current tracking for this one:

    Acceptance
    Jan-23-17, 09:33 AM, MIDLAND, TX 79705

    Departed Post Office
    Jan-23-17, 15:31 PM, MIDLAND, TX 79705

    Arrived at USPS Origin Facility
    Jan-23-17, 19:12 PM, MIDLAND, TX 79711

    Departed USPS Facility
    Jan-24-17, 00:51 AM, MIDLAND, TX 79711

    In Transit to Destination
    Jan-24-17, 19:12 PM

    Arrived at USPS Facility
Jan-27-17, 09:58 AM, CINCINNATI, OH 45235 [wait, what?]

    PROCESSED THROUGH USPS FACILITY
    Jan-28-17, 09:38 AM, WARRENDALE 15095

    Warrendale? Where's Warrendale?

    [off to google Warrendale 15095]

    Oh, that Warrendale. Uh-oh...

From the reviews, it sounds like the Sargasso Sea for postal packages.

Nothing irreplaceable in the package, just harshly cleaned Peace dollars, but I'd hate to pass them up at $3.25 below melt...

I've been there. Unless the seller put the wrong address on it, it will find its' way back home. Just consider yourself lucky that it did not get routed to the infamous "Jersey City Sort Facility", the place where packages go to die. Like a black hole. At times they end up there for a days at a time and come out bruised and mutilated.

Not my favorite subject, the U.S.P.S. so I will rant...

I just returned from a week long business trip and had my mail held for the week. I knew I had a couple of coins on the way and did not want them sitting in my box outside the house for a week. Spoke with my carrier on the Friday before I left to let him know I filed the form to hold mail for the upcoming week. I arrived home yesterday to find a mailbox with a bunch of soggy letters. Fortunately they made half an effort and held "most" of my mail at the office. I suspect the letters were left on the first day,a Monday when we had a Nor'easter come through. I guess the Sunday night crack smoking session hadn't worn off yet when the carrier showed up for work on Monday morning. Must be a tough job keeping all of those requests straight. Actually kind of used to it by now. My "hold mail form" requests have been a real crap-shoot for the last few years.

    Rant over.

I usually have the mail start being held the last day I'm in town before a trip. If the mail shows up that day, I call the local PO and ask what's going on. If I'll be on a long trip, I request mail-hold both via internet and via snail mail. If any coins are likely to be delivered while I'm away, I have the dealer or auction house delay shipment until the day before I'm due back.

100% correct on Jersey City. All my media mail goes through them from Mass. Nothing but trouble, trouble & more trouble. And rude? The epitomy of the word, "We don't have the time to look for your packages". Time to clean house there.

I have done that first day test at times in the past. This time around I had three items in the system scheduled for delivery on the Saturday before the hold and really wanted to have in hand before I jumped in the cab for the trip to KJFK on Sunday night. Lately my work travel schedule has ramped up to the point where I am even lucky to have enough time to let the P.O. to hold my mail before I leave. As a result, things are often in the postal system when I get my travel orders too late to request any holds at the origination point.

Sometimes, the USPS routes the mail strangely. Usually, packages from a Virginia dealer shoot straight to me in New Orleans. Last time, though, it wound up in Topeka. Got here OK but a couple of days late. Might have been due to weather -- or I might have just been lucky.

I bought some coins a couple of years ago from a guy in Illinois. I live one state over. It took 23 days to receive the package. That package visited more states than I have in 50 years.

Last year my wife had some medicine coming from the mail order pharmacy. We're in Illinois and it was shipped from Arkansas. At one point it was in Alaska. It did finally arrive, though late.

I've got a mailbox at the UPS store. More expensive than the box at the post office. But, I've never had a problem and there's not problem with USPS registered, FEDEX, or UPS because there's always someone to sign for and hold the packages.

Can anyone beat this: A few years ago I bought a souvenir card on eBay - just $5, no big deal, but it didn't show up after a month [I have had several items arrive a month after mailing.]. I had done a lot of business with the seller, knew he was a good guy, and wouldn't stiff me for $5, so just wrote it off as lost in the mails. THREE months later, it arrives - no postmarks [but pen cancelled - wouldn't want me to reuse the stamps, of course], and rubber stamped "Sent to Taiwan in error". Oh, it was mailed just a couple hundred miles from where I live. But actually, overall, I think the Post Office does a pretty good job. They once delivered a registered package to me with the state and street name wrong - but ZIP code right, so that probably made delivery possible. And my father once got a letter just addressed "[His Name], Los Angeles, USA". OK, it was back about 1940, but LA population was still about 1.5 million even then.

I've thought about that, but I also recall reading a post here a week or two about the perils of having a "signature release" on file. Something about expecting a package with two coins, and finding one of the coins sitting in the PO box, with no sign of the package or the other coin?

I occasionally buy junk from aliexpress (China) and it routinely arrives within a week.

My latest pain point with USPS. This item arrived at a local distribution point about a fifteen minute drive from my house four days ago..."Metro". The tracking changed a few times. At one point it was "In Transit" on February 2 but that entry was wiped out and replaced on February 3 with another "In Transit" note. No estimated delivery date as of tonight.

If by 'facility near me in North Carolina' you mean Greensboro...well that would be the bane of my existence. Used to be I could send a letter to the Big City 5 miles away (SW VA). Now, it goes to Greensboro then back to Big City. A 20 minute drive, now a couple hours each way.

For some reason many times I send something to New York it seems to take an odd trip. I sent a check and and it went from SW VA to DENVER (via Greensboro of course) where it sat for 17 days. It ultimately got to New York (after I'd sent a replacement check). That was shortly after pot was legalized there so I can only imagine the check was at a great party and arrived to New York reeking of a good time.

I'm having a similar problem with the postal service. Since AFTER Christmas, I've had packages go all over the place before getting here.
