Thanks all :) Some more great coins too! Hopefully I can find a cheap Otho, lol. I still have to keep part of my budget open for falling horseman :D

I must say that these are all very nice pieces of history:

Here's a nice introduction on Galba by professor (and author) Adrian Murdoch):

Here's Penn State professor Dr. Fagan's more in-depth history of Galba:

Also stuck on otho. Not prepared the fourhundred to five hundred pounds plus for a genuine example so waiting for a bargain. May be some time...

When I first started collecting in 2011, the only portrait of the twelve caesars I had trouble getting because of price was Otho, so I decided not to go imperial and picked up this Alexandrian TET with a good portrait for under $300, I say this as it seems everyone has the same problem, you've just got to keep a look out for them. 5RsJMg7AYzc32d4Q6MedLN8t3kZ92K.jpg

Mine was $220, which is a bargain.

Otho really isn't that rare & a shame he does get priced that high. He can be found much easier then many other emperors.

Still looking to upgrade to a better example in the future. Could have worse though.

Is it true that the earlier Imperial denarius are more scarce because they were melted in ancient times due to thier very high silver content? I thought I read somewhere that they started to lose quality around the Flavian era.

I hope it's OK with randy if we just pile our Galba's on onto his thread:).

I cannot resist posting my coins of Galba which I have accumulated over the years.
    One of my favorite emperors.
