Wow! That 1940 looks like it's barely worked a day in its life...

That's a pretty nice 1940; wholesale bid for a 60 is $1 on it, which is not much but it's a good bit for a roll hunting find. I always like finding the uncirculated early date nickels, my best is a 1953-S in ~MS64.

May I ask what area you're in? You mentioned you got 27 2024-D's in one box; I'm in southern Indiana and have found only one across several boxes.

It is certainly a pretty thing. The reverse has an ever so slightly grime in an isolated area. Should it receive an acetone bath?

I reside in the Florida’s Panhandle Central Time Zone. Interesting note concerning my 2024 collection, my first find was not until December 2024. That box contained one from Philadelphia and twelve from Denver. I have purchased three boxes in 2025. My total for those boxes show five from Philly and fifty one from Denver.

That's kinda weird to be on the eastern side of the country and get more D's than P's, since Philadelphia is obviously closer to any part of Florida than Denver is, but it's good for you as the Denvers are in way more demand.

I went through all of 2023 and 2024 without seeing a Jovita Odar quarter. In the last few weeks, most of the quarters I've gotten in change (from self-checkout machines) are Jovita Odar (P-mint, as you'd expect in North Carolina).

Also, I have no idea why, but suddenly I'm getting lots of bright red 2024-D cents.

It certainly couldn't hurt. You could even try distilled water first.

    How about filtered water? :brb:

Not as safe. Filtering just removes solids, and maybe adsorbs some things, but it won't necessarily remove (for example) chloride ions, which can be bad for nickel.

    Nickel Box #30:
    1939-S & 1944-S still eluded me...

    But highlights of the finds:
1928-D buffalo nickel (needed this one for the album!)
1939 Jefferson nickel (sadly no S!)
    2009-D Jefferson nickel
    2000 Bermuda 5 cents

    Other pre-1960 finds:
    1940
    1940-D
    1940-S x2
    1941
    1952-S
    1954
    1954-D x2
    1955-D x2
    1956
    1956-D
    1957-D
    1958-D
    1959-D x5

The hunt continues! Always a great box if it has at least one silver and/or a buffalo.

Don’t find many Cayman Islands coins here in Syracuse. In the winter in Florida it’s not unusual. IMG_3214.jpeg IMG_3215.jpeg

Nothing major but I got a roll of half dollars from the bank. Found a 1997 and a 1997D both of which filled holes.

Don’t think too much. The other half box was a skunk

I'm a half dollar collector. My earliest is an 1803 and I've an AU 1806. But I also enjoy looking for them in circulation although I'll probably never find a 1794 nor a 1484 there.

I went to the bank (Wells Fargo) and bought some half dollar rolls. Before spending them last week (8/8) I decided to verify I had no silvers. Instead I found this.

The 2 coins in the foreground are Cu-Ni, there is one 1958 Franklin & the other 37 are 40%'ers. Just in from circulation! My lucky week.

Good hunting! They seem easier to find now than in the early 70's when I started looking.

I think what's happened is that people have forgotten what silver looks like. Also the kids of the oldies are cashing in their "junk".

In 1940, the proof coins that year were from Philadelphia. That might explain the steps.
