No pictures currently because I haven't gotten to that just yet, but I think I may have myself a 2nd VAM discovery Morgan. I was able to finally find an 1896 (P) to add to my album and have spent quite a while trying to figure out the VAM to no avail. I've spotted several unique identifying details that aren't listed anywhere on vamworld, particularly doubling at certain points and date position, but I'm fairly confident I have another discovery to add. I could very well be wrong and be overlooking something on my coin, or have an earlier or later die state than those listed. I'm certainly not the expert on the matter, just trying to keep diligent about labeling my vams prior to slotting a Morgan into my albums and I'mnot seeing these details listed anywhere so far. I'll see if I'm right or wrong eventually once I send it to John B. at VSS. The last thing I want to do is have another package out there in USPS hands before they figure out why my 1st package hasn't been delivered to CACG yet! That box has some of my nicer coins in it and it's been sitting one stop away from delivery for over a week now, which is just about a 20-minute drive according to the CACG associate. Once that gets delivered, I will start the process again for the discovery. Will post some pictures within 24 hours, and wish me luck!
Pictures taken now, without going into extreme detail and close-up images, but I still have to transfer them off the SD card, onto the computer, then formatted to fit here. Guessing it'll be either later tonight or tomorrow morning that I get to upload them.
It was sent registered so at least there's that going for it. But seeing it just sit there doesn't bode well with me. And thanks for the good luck!
Registered is actually slower than regular mail, because of the extra security. I currently have a registered package that has been in transit for two weeks and it only has to travel 894 miles.
I'm hoping that it will arrive. I'm 0/1 with ordering American coins, registered mail. I would have chosen 1st class, but he didn't have that option and I was trying to avoid Priority.
My only concern is that it had an estimated delivery date of 7/23 and it's been too long without some movement in the system. I also sent in some slabs for crossovers because cacg is having a special on them that ends on the 15th, so as long as the package gets delivered by then I'll be happy. But just sitting there for over a week one stop away from delivery raises my eyebrow slightly. Hopefully it starts moving today.
I did log the complaint/issue with the USPS system on Friday and the package was delivered today thankfully! I haven't been contacted by cacg so I'm assuming everything is good to go. Now just a short wait on their grading team to dash my hopes and everything will be right in smalltown, PA. Couldn't get to my computer today for the picture transfer because my knee is acting up and I've been on the couch all day. Guess I'm not exactly in as good shape as I was in my younger years and lugging an old, clogged, and half-full water heater up the stairs wasn't the best thing for me. Old injuries came back to haunt me this time, so I think that might be the last time I do something I knew better than to do. Live and learn though, right?
Glad you received it. I said it was normal and the complaint probably helped. You’re years younger than me and having knee problems is no fun. Both of mine have been replaced. I know my limitations and I stick to them. Life is easier that way. Take care and enjoy your coins.
You have to know your limits, especially with the stairs! And you've gotta be in good enough shape to get to your computer and post that Morgan. Good to hear the coins arrived, hope they get good grades.
Just went through this. Seem to get hung up when they get about an hour away. Then get shipped away from you again. Had an in transit to next facilty message for 5 days when it was an hour out and then one day it's suddenly out for delivery. Apparently this is the new more efficient USPS saving money. How it saves money to send a package away from you again and bring it back I don't know.
As promised, here's some pictures of the 1896 Morgan. I haven't seen any pups on this coin that alludes to an existing VAM, so hopefully my intuition is right again!
Good luck with that! USPS lost 3 coins over the past 12 months that I purchased. 2 of them were extremely nice coins and purchased at a real bargain. I was livid. What's more frustrating there is really no way to contact anyone via phone, and if you do, you never get the same person and the next one knows nothing about discussions with the previous one. I cringe everytime I send coins to be graded. My last submission to PCGS, I sent via Fed X (rolled the dice without insurance) and it was cheaper than the USPS. You just need to use their physical location and not their PO box.
I do believe you are correct, thank you. I couldn't see some of the details on my scope because it's rather cumbersome to tilt the coin and focus the viewer so I went to the trusty jeweler's loupe. Then I could see the impression in the wing (and the other stuff) but also found more details not listed on the vamworld page. Found a die gouge from the first "U" in PLURIBUS down to the hair, another very short one at the neck point, and some heavy polishing lines in "LIBERTY." But thank you for steering me right! You've got some good eyes to identify it from just my pictures! Much appreciated
