Just got this 1952 2 1/2 proof Silver shilling. Nicely toned proof, and a mintage of only 16,000. Liked the toning and fits my Foreign Silver kick right now:

    doug444 STAMPS and POSTCARDS too!

More rare than you think! Most savaged by 60+ years of South Africa's climate; no protective packaging in those days. Same for Southern Rhodesia's high-end coinage.

Nice looking coin, and I agree with above post, the condition must be very scarce. Nice score.

Awesome!! I love all the South African silvers. Great mintage numbers on most.

Thanks for mentioning that. I also picked up this One Shilling proof from 1954, with a mintage of 3150 for a very reasonable price:

Love the shilling design. One of the best ones I think.

Extremely beautiful specimen! It is superior to the full proof set I own.

Nice! It goes with my 1954 PL 5 Shilling, also a 65:

These low mintage SA proofs are undervalued and under appreciated at present IMO. Nice pickup :)

Thanks a lot. Think I am going to seriously collect the 2, 21/2, and a few 5 shilling proofs from SA. They are attractive, low mintage, and except for a few dates, reasonably priced. Thanks for the positive advice!
