Nice detail on the profile and eagle but the rim area is pretty beat. It looks pitted. Not sure if is worth $50. Buck. I have one like yours but much better grade. Mine is in the type set I am working on.

Yeah, I suppose it would be easy to look at this old beauty with a critical eye and in the process maybe condemn it to the dustbin of history or a even worst fate, the smelter(I wonder how many of its kind suffered that fate). But like a Grand Lady that's well past her prime, the glory of her youth long past, I can still see in her that which once was and the heritage she represented to a young nation, so she will forever have a place with me.

    I bought a raw 1937 half for my 7070 type set. I paid $145.
I removed it from the Dansco and sent it to ANACS. They graded it VF-30 no problems.
Now I need to shop for a replacement for the type set.

Someone I showed it to suggested soaking it in acetone, but I don't know about that.

I wouldn't touch it. Doesn't look like there's anything active happening to endanger the coin. With it in this condition any "cleaner" surfaces will only detract from the long history it so eloquently reflects. It has been around the block more than its' fair share, and you've saved it for posterity when others might ruin it by attempting to "improve" it.

It's only "ugly" to those who refuse to understand history.

You could always remove it from the new ANACS slab & put it (along with the ANACS label) back into your 7070.

Well because ANACS straight graded it I'll keep it slabbed.
I removed other coins from the 7070 to submit and 3 came back with problems.
Those got cracked out and put back in the Dansco.

I only mentioned it because I too have taken a coin from my Dansco 7070 and had it graded. It was the 1859 C-N cent and it came back NGC MS64. I can't convince myself to crack it out SO NOW I HAVE A HOLE IN MY 7070.:(

Has anyone started a thread just for posting coins from your 7070? It might be a fun pile-on thread. I'd post a photo of the hole where a 1859 cent should be.:D

All I'm hearing here is, "I have a perfect excuse to buy another nice 1859 Cent." :)

My 1859 was taken out of the 7070 and submitted to Paul Joseph at the now defunct Westford show.
ANACS graded it "Recolored" details AU-55. I can't see evidence of recoloring, especially since these were the white nickel type.
    I'm leaving it slabbed also.

I agree, because the pictures do not do it justice and in hand it has a very nice patina that I think only adds to it's eye-appeal. The places in the pics where it looks white is actually where the silver is still shiny, don't know how that happened, I'll chalk it up to the new camera.
