2012 D Nickel - Strike error or PMD

    It looks like PMD to me.

    Proven, I think, by the fact that the rim is formed on the feature in the same direction as on the original.

    I also think it's PMD. I can't picture a scenario where only the a portion of the metal would be pushed out and away from the coin without leaving a corresponding mark on the reverse during the minting operation. The numerous scratched and nicks also offer some circumstantial evidence that the coin got beat up
