Parents got this for me as a gift and I would like to know how much it is worth. They would not tell me what they paid for it. gonna weigh it to see if it's real. Obverse: Reverse:
@Paul Broccardi It looks like it has been improperly cleaned (whizzed) and there is apparent rim damage on the obverse at about 1 o'clock.........UNC Details. I don't want to guesstimate what it could be worth because the value for a "Details" coin can vary widely. Chris
Yeah i see the hairlines throughout the fields and i see the massive ding on the rim. Had a feeling something was wrong with it because i wouldn't expect my parents to know a cleaned coin looks like from a non cleaned coin. thanks for the feedback.
Nice of your parents to buy you a coin. FYI, I've told my relatives not to buy me coins. If they want to get me a gift certificate to a favorite dealer, that's great.
Regardless of its condition, it's a beautiful piece made even more special because of who gave it to you. But yes, I hope they didn't overpay.
My dad just told me he paid $52. Don't know if that's good but I dont think it's that bad. Very special gift.
In a similar fashion my niece gave me a fairly nice Morgan for Christmas one year and asked me later if I wasn't thrilled to have one of these since I probably didn't.
Don't know how old your parents are, naturally, but you might buy them either a mint set or a proof set for their birth years. I've found that gift is a hit -- collector or not.
Thanks @Santinidollar great idea! @cpm9ball it was a very special gift! looks beautiful cleaned or not. thanks for the feedback
It's a very nice, strong one. Everything is there that's supposed to be there except the surface for the cleaning. In that sharp condition, if the surface were intact, that baby would be reflecting the light like a diamond in the sky. But that's why we don't clean them, just so you know. Once you rub off that original surface, you never get it back to how it was.
