I never used to like these things at all. Always thought they were kind of tacky, but lately I've had a change of heart. I do like a lot of the bicentennial stuff, though. This is my first one that I bought the other day. I'm going to do just a small collection of these; I'm not going to go crazy with them. Anyone else into these at all?

Cool Note. I guess people expected these to gain popularity. I have one but it's sleeping right now. ;) It's similar to yours except mine says my town and state. I keep mine for the memory of going with my Dad to the "old" post office to have mine stamped. It's Uncirculated like many of them.
Is there a link for these for value and other things for these??
    Anyone? :)

I like the theme of these however there not worth much, my late father in law
put about 500 of these underneath a dresser drawer which we discovered after his passing I think he thought they would actually worth something, the $2 bill like the
Sacagawea dollar never gained traction just not as popular as people thought they would be.

My brother has one. I'm not sure why I didn't get one too. I would think they are very common. It seems like every post office in the country was doing this for the first day of issue / bicentennial.

I do not care for the ones with a postage stamp applied to the front of the note.
I think they are like a scratch on a proof coin. JMO.
I understand that the post office is only allowed to cancell postage stamps, which is the reason a stamp had to be applied to the note, which also make them the most common type of post-cancelled notes to be found.
So on April 13th 1976 folks went to the bank and got some nice new 2 dollar notes and then went to their local PO and bought a stamp to apply to the note so it could recieve a cancellation stamp, just to prove it was a first day of issue note. And in doing so damaged the note to a certain degree, to the opinion of some folks.
My late father in-law was a Postman by trade and a Philatelist and a Numismatist. He was able to procure these notes that were cancelled without a stamp applied to them. I do believe he was not the only person to do such a thing. He also was able to find Star Notes and was willing to apply a cancellation on them. While doing this may make them a little more Scare to find it should increase their value to those who enjoy having a bit of Numismatic history.

Some of the 1976 notes where made in 1975 in expectation of a large demand for these notes.
