Hello from Missouri... New to coin searching and the forum here. Is it doubled die or machine doubling? Appreciate your help!

Welcome to CT. Very hard to determine with one small photo. Some full photos of obverse and reverse would be better. post them as full photo too.

Given the almost certain "shelving" of the doubling on the Date (a sharp definition between the two halves instead of a more "rounded" transition between the duplicate images), as well as a lack of true splitting at ends of the numerals, I would call it MD or Machine Doubling.

However, all may not be lost! There does appear to be a clear splitting of the serif on the top left of the "D" and possibly on the lower left serif as well. If that is the case, then you have an RPM (probably either Rotated or Tilted). Based on what I can derive from your picture, I would guess you have a D/D Tilted "1958-D RPM-007". But you have the coin in hand, so I would refer you to this site http://www.varietyvista.com/02a LC RPMs Vol 1/1958DRPM007.htm to take a look for yourself; and Bookmark the site as it is an invaluable, if not top, resource for US variety coins. Good Luck and Semper Fidelis.

That's very extreme strike doubling, especially for that year. It's a keeper for that, in and of itself.
