"Shame"? I see no column for that on the corporate profits spreadsheet.

Ehhh - you can get any "pedigree" you want listed on the slab, assuming you are willing to pay for it. It appears that's what was done here.

AFAIK, every major TPGS will do "custom" labels such as "Discovery Coin" or "Joe's Collection." IMO, NGC does a terrific job with these attractive "marketing" labels. :D

They pander to whoever is willing to shell out the dosh for whatever. Including on some coins, ie the 1933 Saint - a grade that the vast majority of collectors would scoff at. A lot of it is less about the coin and more about the consignor.

Oh boy! A coin from the Pawn Stars stage!:yack:

One one hand, NGC is attacking PCGS's reputation. On the other hand....

Talking out of both corners of their mouth.

The TPGs reminds me of an old country song 'if you got money, I got the time".

You guys do realize they have a business relationship with NGC right? David Vagi of NGC is the expert they bring in for the more rare coins they film.

Those were good for the hobby by reason of helping maintain, strong, robustly-profitable dealers from whom we can buy our coins.

Phew. I've out-sarcasmed myself. Lemme go brush my teeth.
