Metal detector finds

People don't believe I found this coin metal detecting (because of the condition a 50 year old coin). But not everything is buried in acidic soil for 50 years sometimes
it's just under the wood chips at the play ground.

If it is just under the wood chips and not in the soil, then it hasn't been there long. Once it rains, gravity/mass of the coin etc. pull it down into the wet soil.

Some highlights different hunts.
This Native American dollar is NIFC 3 million minted. Native hospitality.
Then just a regular half.
A half and a silver ring. I skipped some spots, and I was going to skip the last spot, and the very last signal was a silver ring.
The next week I pulled a silver cross.
And then today I got another NIFC golden dollar, 862,000 minted. American Innovators.

 

I found my first Civil War item on Saturday in Vienna, Virginia.

For those who don't know, I moved from Maine to Virginia almost a year ago now. This was a very exciting find, my first US Civil War relic!

It is a Sharps Carbine rifle bullet, used by both the Union and the Confederacy, and due to the caliber of this one, it can be dated from 1859-1863. It was used by the calvary as it was easier to load on horseback as compared to infantry or Springfield rifles.

 

Very nice Evan! I remember the first one I found in early 2000's. It sounded just like an "Ox Knob". I would have been excited to find that but was rewarded by a missed bullet instead. Here's the bullet I found, . # 34! The rest of the trinkets are from 2000-2007.
Just joking. Sounds like a very old place to detect.

Highlights from today. I never bagged a 40% before. I have one Franklin.

 

PS one of the dimes is a 1964-D 90% silver

 

It was a low target hunt, but it had those surprises. I didn't look at the date on the half until I got home. I didn't notice the dime at all until I started looking at all the dates through a loupe. The dime is the 3rd from the end but it is hard to read the 4, and the next week was very weak. Trying tomorrow.

Made a little over my gas. The dollar coin was nice. (Franklin Pierce) But otherwise the hunt was disappointing. I hit 8 spots and only 2 were OK.

Do you live near an amusement park? I find it odd that you found so many elongated cents.

 

There is an aquarium and a zoo nearby, as well as other things that make pressed coins. Find many of them in the park playgrounds and school playgrounds. Some of them come from interesting places. Roswell, etc. Of course most of them are local.

 

I had a couple of issues. I go to my 2nd spot and there is someone working my side of the street, it's 5:30 the sun isn't even up yet, so I left. Silver ring and dollar coin.
