Cash register finds today: 2009-D Presidency Lincoln cent 2009-D American Samoa quarter (haven't seen these in a while. Now just need to find a Guam quarter to finish the 2009 quarters set!)
Cash register finds today: 2009-D Formative Years Lincoln cent 1956 Lincoln wheat cent And just as I was about to leave, looked down, and... parking lot find: 1936-S Lincoln wheat cent, very scratched up obverse but still, wheat cent is a wheat cent!
Nice LWCs, folks! I collected one last week from McD's run (first run in many months). I left my change in my brother's car and I'm waiting for photos. Hopefully, I'll have a reveal this week...granted he remembers! lol
Finds from the register today: 1955-D & 1956-D Lincoln wheat cents, also a Series 2013 1 dollar star note (posted that in Paper Money New Acquisitions).
Curiously, how do you get a penny in change from an airport parking lot? Are they charging by the minute?
$1.50 charge (the rate for 10-60 minutes) x 7% Florida tax=$1.61. I gave the cashier two one dollar bills. He asked me if I wanted change! I said yes, I am a numismatic. He looked at me funny (obviously he did not know the meaning of the word) and gave me 39 cents in change.
OK had to mention this one: 1892 Indian head cent, found in the register today! I wonder how in its 133 year history it somehow made it to a random cash drawer without anyone noticing before today. Will be hard to beat this for a cash register find!
Took my brother a bit to get to the photos. Received in change a McDonald’s and properly seasoned as one might expect. I told him to rinse it off and then soak overnight in distilled water. He left it soaking for a week as he forgot about it. So, the conservation was choppy. Then it took him weeks to get to the photos. It remained a low priority! lol. But, he did come through. Some TLC before being released again!
The Oldies are still out there people: Got 4 keepers this weekend. Three on Friday; a cent, a nickel, a quarter. And to top it off, a dime on Saturday. At a 7/11 give a cent, take a cent cup I unloaded a shield cent and took a wheatie that was showing tails up in the cup. Picked up a nickel from my grocery store parking lot. Minted back when San Francisco was still producing business strike nickels. Got a nice pre '65 Washington Quarter in change from my grocery store purchase. and finally, pulled an older Roosevelt dime from a drink machine return slot at a machine in the strip mall where I normally shop.
San Francisco ceased production of business strike nickels in the 70s. and How many 50 + yrs. old nickels are encountered everyday w/o roll searching?
I’ve noticed a decrease in 50 yo coinage over the past few years. Older coinage is rarer yet. Not to say they are not in the tills, but aligning with them in change is tougher for sure. Fun to see older catches, especially if they’re IHCs or silver.
