Hi The words on the coin kind of gave me a clue! But I have no idea of age etc? Thanks 8n advance Allan
Meiji year 28 = 1895. Beautiful coin. I have a couple, both chop marked. Looks like one cost all of $14?! I miss 1990s coin prices...
Not sure what it cost its with hundreds of others , some I have posted recently - I am aware not to keep posting in case it gets on peoples nerves
NGC World Coin Guide lists a XF at $65.00USD , but yours looks better, maybe AU53. That would elevate the value to approx $90-110. The NGC World guide has 2 other varieties listed but there is no explanation of differences. Go to NGCcoin.com and select “Resources” for further research.
Very nice, to the coin in the OP. And as to the detecting find, double wow! I'll bet your friend got an adrenaline rush when that puppy popped out of the soil! I remember when I found an Oregon Trail half dollar (and another time, an 1894-O Barber half). Each of those times I was expecting a quarter, and when a piece of really big silver popped out of the dirt instead, it knocked the wind out of me.
Here's mine. They get a tad pricey in Mint State. Not absolutely unobtainable; just a little bit pricey, is all.
Thanks, I bought it from a Japanese eBay seller, and yes, the label is cool (it is one of the reasons I bought the coin), another one with the label is available from a different Japanese eBay seller: https://www.ebay.com/itm/1462859768...0nMJqX7tMPSbGSvkrbppRDRg==|tkp:Bk9SR6riiJ_wZQ
Nice coin, but yowch, look at that price! Mine's one grade point higher and cost me less than a third of that amount!
The coin itself cost me 821 USD, but I also had to pay the 25% Croatian VAT on the invoice total + another 50 USD to FedEx in customs fees.
