I just counted, and there are 41 gold and electrum coins in my collection, not counting gilt pieces. Considering how limited my budget was for so long (and it's not exactly huge today), this is amazing to me. It was a "whoa" moment.

Presently, I do not own any platinum or palladium coins.

How many gold or platinum coins do you own? Electrum counts. Gilt does not.

Most of mine are small bullion pieces but I have sampled pre 1933 coins a few times

I clicked the 6-10 box. Traditionally I haven't collected gold just because that isn't where my collecting interests lie. That said, I have picked up some through the years just for the artistry or history surrounding a particular piece. @panzerman may be responsible for pointing me towards a couple of those purchases.

I have around 200. I have a lot of modern commemorative U.S. gold coins in Proof and Unc. from the days when I was keeping up with that series. They are now almost all bullion coins. Their numismatic value has disappeared to their melt value. I have U.S. type coins and three sets plus some British pieces, and only one Roman gold aureus and couple solidi. I have only one or two U.S. platinum coins.

I’ve got a stack on my desk, but that stash is likely to shrink…

    Post your aureus!

An aureus was a dream coin I thought I’d never own. Now I have two. They’re in modest grade, but special to me. The Titus was a commemorative for the opening of the Colosseum. Never mind the fact that it’s gold- it’s kinda hard to beat for historical appeal.

Gold is mostly out of my price range and when I do pay that much I have other coins I'd rather have.

My collecting interests lie in the grubby dirt where people had to slave away to save a dime. James

I'm in the 11 - 25 slot, all being gold. I had one platinum coin but sold that a few years ago.

Hopefully the.gov didn't hack lords account :wideyed: the number 14 sticks in my memory...AWAG would be 14oz.:greedy: If I had to guess pieces?
    I'll pick a number...

I considered putting an “I don’t know” option in the poll, for the Randy A. types, but ran out of spaces.

I put 6-10. Gold and Platinum purchased around Y2K. I had more but have been recently trading/selling to upgrade key dates in my collection.

OK... I threw in at the 26-50 column and that is a SWAG. Now before you get to thinking I am a Panzerman type, a whole lot of those are quarter and half eagle injuns I bought in the 1990's. Sadly, my gold resides at the bank and I don't really know what all lives there.

Here it is. It's an aureus of Antonius Pius, which is supposed to be the most common aureus of all. I would love to get all of the emperors in gold, but that is beyond me. Five figures for each piece is not unusual. Some of them are really beautiful. NGC graded this one Choice VF.

    Antoninus Pius Aureus All.jpg

Aureus of Antonius Pius, Obverse: ANTONINVS AVG PIVS P P IMP II “Antoninus augustus pius father of his country (Pater Patriae) Emperor. Reverse: TR POT XX COS IIII “Tribune Potestas 20 Consul 4 (year 156-7 AD) Victory advancing holding a wreath and palm. Sear 4028

Here are my two solidii. They are for two of the late emperors. I knew I was in trouble with the rulers from this era when gold was the cheapest option.

    Honorius Solidus All.jpg

Solidus of Honorius, Obverse, D N HONORIVS P F AVG “Our lord Honorius dutiful and patriotic emperor.” Reverse, VICTORIA AVG GG “Victory to the emperor,” COM OB below, M D in the field. Honorius in military dress with his foot on a captive, holding a standard and Victory on a globe.

Struck at the Milan Mint, RIC X 1206b, Sear 20916

The AVG GG on the reverse was either a mistake or a left over die when Honorius, Arcadius and his father, Theodosius I were co-emperors. The additional “Gs” indicate that there were multiple emperors.

    Valentinian III Solidus All.jpg

Solidus of Valentinian III, Obverse: “D N VALENTIMIANVS P F AVG” “ Reverse: “IMP XXXXII COS XVII P P” “Glory of Romans” Constantinopolis, enthroned left, holding scepter and globus cruciger, foot on prow. RIC 287, Sear 21261
