This could go in Post Your Lincolns, or in Newest Acquisitions, or even in Woodies. Since I have very few TPG graded coins, I thought I'd take the opportunity to let everyone hone their grading skills. Perhaps it's the TPG that needs honing.

    Let's see.

What's the grade? If you like (no extra credit here!), what's it worth?

    First, a static image.

Now, a little bit of motion. It's not perfected, but it might be fun to see a wee bit of action.

Clean enough for a 64, but I do not see the luster.

The evenness of the toning bothers me.

Fair enough, I can do better on the photo to show the luster.
These are from the iPhone, hand-held, so the focus is not great. But there is more light.

Another try, but the lighting flattens out the cartwheel luster.

I have to confess that capturing luster is a lot harder than one might think! This is the best I have done tonight.

Photo tip! When photographing through a slab, you can use a black foam insert from a nickel 2x2 holder and place it on the slab over the coin. The camera can still see the coin, but the reflections from the holder are greatly reduced. I left some reflection in this shot because that's where the best light was.

    Thanks!

I'll give this another 24 hours for folks to offer opinions, then I'll reveal the grade.

This is a weird one, and I've been thinking about it for a while. The dies were a bit out of parallel - compare the (viewer's) right side wheat stalks to the left, and the obverse rim in the corresponding areas (the viewer's rim at 9:00 is much sharper than the 3:00 side). So, factoring that along with a really sharp strike except where it isn't ( :D ), highest points on the face being an example, and mixing in the fact that Populations vanish and price skyrockets above MS64, I have it at MS64BN.

This has been interesting. I think everyone is right!

    Yes, it's MS63RB.

It's in an OGH, so some people take that to be undergraded by today's market grading. So maybe it's possible it would regrade at 64.

I am impressed by its sharp strike, lack of contact, and luster. I would like it to be MS65, of course. There is some weakness in AME of AMERICA and PLUR of PLURIBUS. There is also a little corrosion along the reverse rim at the bottom. Still, there just aren't any significant dings anywhere. So I don't know about 65.

So now do I take it out of the OGH to treat it with some VerdiCare?

If I truly think it's undergraded now, then it should regrade without trouble if I ever want it in a slab again. But then virtually every other coin I have is raw. (I was actually looking for an undergraded AU58 - MS63 coin with the exact intention of unslabbing it.)

    Decisions, decisions.
