I just heard on the news that the after the current run of blank cent planchets run out that the mint won't order any more.

I've seen the news about it on several mainstream news sites. I won't miss the cent.

I got three shiny new 2025 cents from the self checkout this evening. PCGS, NGC, CAC? What kind of retirement income stream am I looking at from these?

I think I saw that the Treasury just didn't order any. I assume it still requires an act of Congress to do away with them.

I still say they'll go back into production as soon as the zinc lobby's checks clear.

When Oh'Canada eliminated their cent, was there a buy back, exchange, or whatever process for removing them from circulation? I assume there was (but don't know), and as far as I can tell, there is no similar plan in place here in Oh'USA.

Ah, who cares... as somone who's favorite coin of all time is a sharp strike Lincoln Wheat cent... put it out to pasture. For me, the Cent died after 2008.

I love the Brenner Lincoln bust... so in my opinion, put FDR in the bread line where he belongs, and increase the diameter of the dime to 19mm and put a 1915 Lincoln bust on the dime and just like that greatest coin of the 21st century.

On second thought, lets just get rid of the FDR dime and replace it with the Lincoln cent. Career politicians have been turning ones into tens for years apparently :greedy::dead:

I’m sure the treasury will retire them when the get the chance, as they do with all worn out and obsolete coinage.

Unfortunately, yes. The end of the cent will terminate a date series that has run from 1793 to date, with the exception of 1815.

If/when they discontinue the penny, I'll bet they won't stop there. They will most likely start exploring new material compositions for the remaining coins.

I bet enough will remain in coin jars to last generations.
