As some of you may know, I am an avid bidder on GreatCollections, often weekly. I get quite a few deals, generally $15 to $75 in deals, mostly stuff I can turn a quick profit on.

I've gotten quite a few deals over the months. Sometimes the 'bidiots', a word from @mrweaseluv that sums up some GC bidders perfectly, tend to overlook the real money makers.

Overall, what's the greatest deal you've gotten there? It can be any price range.

Because one make purchases against their GC settlement check I was able to pick up a J-160 Large Cent Pattern and an MS-60BN 1847 Hawaiian Cent.

May I ask how you do on there with your consignments? Mainly I'm wondering if you turn a profit on your coins on GC. That is quite cool, though, that you've gotten a pattern cent and a Hawaiian cent, as they are both very nice designs.

That's just...... wow. One of the greatest-looking AU58s I have ever seen, especially for the front of it. I see it went for $422, so I take it you're a collector as opposed to a dealer.

That was almost MS66 money! If it didn't have that small bit of wear, it could easily hit a 66. That's AU58s being AU58s for ya.

I collect first and then let go of certain items to make room for others. This one is in the keeper box for the foreseeable future. It is among the nicest examples I've seen in AU 58 in terms of color. I've seen a few AU 58+ (plus graded) PCGS examples and they were not as nice.

That figures, being that it's from Poor Consistency Grading Service. However, though, when an AU58 gets a star designation, that likely contributed to part of the price - such coins in those holders seem to be quite rare. I don't have much of a nickname for NGC, but they've got great grading skills to me, sometimes a lot better than PCGS.

I'll come up with more nicknames later. ;)

It was my first consignment with GC. I am a collector and I was quite happy with the entire process. Their charges are very reasonable compared to other auction houses like Stack Bowers and Heritage. I turned a small profit but that was not my sole motivation for selling. When the time comes to sell my entire collection I will probably use GC again.

So far this year, I have sent Great Collections a little over 500 coins and hope to double that before the year ends. It's a lot of work to get all the submissions correct but it paid me really well. I lost a little on some coins but more than made that back on others.

My goal was to cash out and GC has done a great job in helping me reach that goal.

PCGS grades have came back really fair so far. Nothing I would argue about. About 150 coins are still at PCGS. They found two IHCs and returned them as counterfeit. Sad but I learned from it.

All an all, I trust GC, NGC and PCGS.

I would have to post pictures later but one of my favorite wins ever happened in 2022. I won an 1878-CC PCGS 40 Quarter (cancelled die) for $310.00. In the same auction there was a PCGS 35 1888 Quarter that no one bid on. I won it for $78.00 dollars. To this day this coin is the all time winner of "Worst Picture of a Coin" contest at ANY site.
