I recently picked up a 1926 S Oregon with some beautiful color in a details holder and was wondering what the chances of getting it into a straight grade holder is. Right now it is in an UNC Details-artificial toning NGC holder. I think I could get it into a questionable color PCGS holder but would love to get it straight graded. Anyone think I have a shot? Sorry for the very poor photos but it is the best I can do.
Who cares what the label says. IMO, crack it out and sell it on Ebay or at a show to a toning freak! And there is nothing derogatory about "freak" as color drives up the price BIG TIME. Let the buyer decide how much $$$ he likes the color.
I think the 'white balance' might be a tad off. If it's not, then I'd be a little concerned. Not too much though.........Insider's right. Folks eat these types of things up with a spoon, problem or not.
From what I have seen lately, PCGS tends to be easier on toned coins. So you can try to crack it and send it there. Or potentially send it to Anacs when they run a special; if it straight grades at Anacs, maybe a crossover to PCGS (at grade or 1-2 points lower) would be easier. As others suggested, you could also sell as is (if you are looking to sell). Depending on what you paid for it, there could still be a profit if the right person sees it.
NGC holders are VERY hard to break out, first time I did that was today. Here are photos outside the holder, it honestly looks okay to me.
Heck, put it on the window sill (southern exposure) for a few months (turning it over every so often) and things might change a bit.
