Evening, all. Just found a weird one, not even sure to guess what it may be - tripling? It affects the text all the way around on obverse AND reverse and to a lesser extent on Jefferson and Monticello. Makes it look almost feathered. Thoughts? (Sorry about the full shots, I couldn't get any further back)
Severe die deterioration doubling. Considered worthless doubling. It's not a doubled die nor tripled die variety.
Thanks paddyman98. I try to answer my own questions before jumping in, but this one didn't look like any of the pics I could find, so figured the pros could help - and they did!
Welcome to Coin Talk! As Paddyman98 said, it is severe die deterioration and therefore not worth a premium. (It's not worthless--still worth 5 cents.) However, I find it interesting because I think it may be the most extreme example of this I have ever seen on an American coin, and I have been collecting since before your nickel was struck.
