Are you able to safely remove the bezel? We need to see if there is damage to the rim. I call it "Death by Bezel". Most times the coin is damaged.
Yes, just as soon as I get home. I'm not sure if it matters, but I dont believe it was worn very much. Just put away in a box from what I understand.
The coin is now circulated in my opinion. Is this coin sentimental by chance? If so, I would think it over first. Here is average value for an AU50 coin..... 1880 Morgan Silver Dollar Normal Date Coin Value Prices, Photos & Info
If you remove the coin from the bezel it will show signs of damage. This lowers the coins value to around $25.00. Welcome to CT.
Hi Hillary..... I cannot tell, but what is just under the ribbon under the eagle on the reverse? Just above the D and O in "Dollar".... Am I seeing a "CC" there? What the fellows are telling you is that a coin placed in a bezel will forever have damage from the bezel. See, we coin nerds are a picky lot and we notice little things like that... So, if it is a common Morgan it will always be tied to silver value because it is now damaged goods to a coin collector..... However, if that is a "CC" that I think I see under the ribbon that may change the game just a little bit. If that "CC" is there, it represents being minted at Carson City Nevada and that makes your coin a bit rarer and consequently a bit more valuable.
It may be. There seems to be some sort of writing across the images and it hits that mintmark just right where I cannot tell what it is.... Even if it is a New Orleans Morgan she has a little better piece. I would guess $200.00 if Carson City and maybe $45.00 if New Orleans.
