Thanks for all the help on the first group to everyone who posted! Here's hoping this post might draw some more eyes to the remainders here...

As I said in your first thread, post each one separately. You'll get a better response.

Thanks, Bing. I wasn't sure if that would be annoying to some considering I'll be posting about 50 of them.

I don't think it will be annoying. It's much too difficult when you have to go from bottom of a thread to top n order to see what's posted. Perhaps list 2 or 3 on one thread. Many here like to attribute coins, so I think they'll have fun helping you out.

One other thought. Friday's generally is quiet on CT for whatever reason. Give it a day or so. There will be responses.

Another set of nice and authentic looking coins.

Try spacing them out, like 10 a week.

People here like the challenge of identifying coins for people, but most of us burn out after a while. We get multiple requests most weeks for help.

    :)

I strongly disagree, Bing. While it is better to post coins individually, the OP were to spam the board with fifty individual posts, knocking the more interesting threads to page three, I'd pitch a hissy fit. Even posting all fifty in groups of 8-10, if done all at once, is pushing it.

@RTScott1978, Bing gave some great advice in your first post:

A common reaction to ancient coins is "WHOA! These are two thousand years old! They must be rare and worth a fortune!!"

Unfortunately, if the thinker had visions of dollar signs dancing in his brain, ancient coins exist in the tens of (hundreds of?) millions, with more found all the time. Your friend's coins are average but nice and at a glance appear to be common. Values will range from ~$10 to a few hundred dollars-- most are in the lower range.

I think your friend's collection is fantastic though. It could provide a huge amount of entertainment should he develop an interest in ancient coins :)

Double ditto. And given that the pictures in each thread show obverse and reverse and are clearly numbered, I personally don't see the problem with having 9 or 10 in the first post of each thread created.

Anyway, this is what I have for the OP:

    11.
EGYPT, Alexandria. Otho. AD 69. BI Tetradrachm
Compare with this example on Vcoins. This one is the most valuable coin in this group.

    12.
    CRISPUS
    AE3. Campgate reverse.

    13.
    VESPASIAN
    AR Denarius.

    14.
    CONSTANTIUS II
    AE2. Fallen horseman type.

    15.
    VALENTINIAN I
    AE3. GLORIA ROMANORVM.

    16.
    GALLIENUS
    Billon Antoninianus. Salus reverse.

    17.
    PTOLEMAIC KINGS OF EGYPT
Ptolemy II-IV (?). AE20ish. Obv Head of Alexander III wearing elephant skin headdress

    18.
    COMMODUS
    AE Dupondius. Minerva reverse.

    19. M̶A̶C̶E̶D̶O̶N̶I̶A̶N̶ ̶K̶I̶N̶G̶D̶O̶M̶
SELEUKID KINGDOM (as pointed out by @Ajax)
AR issue in the name and types of Alexander the Great
Need weight and diameter to determine if it's a tetradrachm or drachm.

IMHO, #12-#18 are all going to fall somewhere in the range of $10-$50 retail value. As for #19, I can't tell if its a drachm or a more tetradrachm just from the picture. Weight and diameter would be helpful.

Depending on how these are going to be disposed of, I reckon you'll be looking at selling cost ranging anywhere from 30% to 60% of the retail value of the coins. I don't know exactly what ebay/paypal charges are like, but I'd think at least 20% if not 30% of the selling price. A dealer may offer to take the whole lot off your hands, but I would not expect to be given more than 50% of the retail value of the group.

That reminds me of another point I forgot to make.

Zumbly linked to Vcoins, showing a rather pricey example of the coin. Vcoins is a retail venue. If the OP's friend were to sell to a dealer, the prices would be much much lower (Oops, Zumbly already said this. Guess I should read everything before hitting Reply :D)

    Hello @RTScott1978

My suggestion is to try and attribute these yourselves because it's more fun. If this is something you would like to try, let us know and we can give you entry of resources.
