    Hi,
Here is a close up of the date of my 1869 Seated Liberty Dime. As I look at the date closely, just to the right of the "9," I distinctly see the ghost of a "7." The top of the "7" is pronounced, at least to me.

This type of error on this coin doesn't seem to be reviewed in the 2026 Red Book or any place else as far as I can tell. When I look at high grade images of this coin on the PCGS website, there isn't anything close to this type of ghost 7.

Does anyone else see this ghost of a 7? If so, do you think this is really a mint error or just some type of weird scratch? If it is a mint error, does that increase the value?

    Thanks! 1869 Seated Liberty Dime.jpg

From the pic you provided, the overall wear sustained makes me think it is not an error, not a ghost number. It is more likely paredolia on your part coupled with surface damage on the coins’ part.

That because it's not an error or variety of any kind unfortunately. Paredolia is what you are experiencing o_O
