Anyone see this new Bonkers piece on the market at Great Collections??

    Does the mint sell these to high end auction houses or sellers? This surely did not end up in a mint sewn bag that some random collector found! I thought the mint was supposed to destroy these errors. Was this "hand carried" out of the mint?

    During those years there were a lot of "Errors" that were moved from the US Mint to collectors. There were a mix of intentional and actual examples. The regulations became stricter over time to avoid possessing them. One known way of sneaking them out of the US Mint was to drop them into the oil pans of the transport trucks/lifts and getting them out after leaving the facility.

    Exactly why I don't consider those as collectable within a series. They should not be part of the population of any given denomination, date or mint.
