Okay got this off of the bay last week. Many will cringe because it's jewelry but it's gold and it's rare and I'm too old to care! :D I already had one, the slabbed one I bought years ago but I always wanted another, these are selling right now for $500 to $600 and it's less than 2 grams of gold, here it is! :D

Whenever I see these old pesos, I am reminded of the story of how a large amount of older silver Filipino coinage was dumped into the ocean when MacArthur left and then retrieved after the war, hence explaining the awful condition of many of these pieces.

Yes, rather than leaving the Silver Pesos to the Japanese, they threw them into the ocean.

By the way, do you by any chance know who the woman on the obverse is supposed to represent? She reminds me of Manifest Destiny.

The figure of a woman, often referred to as "Lady Liberty" or "Liberty", is featured on older Philippine peso coins, specifically the 10, 20, 50 centavo, and 1 peso coins. This female figure, depicted striking an anvil with a hammer, was meant to symbolize the work being done by Americans in building a better Philippines. The design of the woman's figure was inspired by the daughter of the designer, Blanca, according to some accounts, said Collectors Society.

I just added this to my suite of low mintage coins that still look good after a lifetime of service. One thing that is a little strange is that it has been slabbed by PCGS but the holder itself has the name "Trader Bea" on it, see below. Has anyone else run across a "Trader Bea" slab? I think I'll get it reslabbed.

Yes, I've seen similar slabs. I think it's a dealer who submits a lot of coins to PCGS and they give them a custom slab. Just saw one recently online as a matter of fact.

Common year and variety but I couldn’t resist the toning! Interestingly most of my Busties are either AU53 or VF35… seems those are the nicest coins for collectors on a budget.

Ooooo, nice. And thats the last one I need to complete the set. If I could just get condition and price to sync up.

Yes. It seems their slabs are all over the place now. They're a seller on WhatNot. They also have a custom NGC holder. Personally I think their special holders are unattractive. Doesn't change how nice the coin is though. :)

Recently filled two collection holes with semi-key date Morgans who worked for a living. Maybe one day I'll upgrade them. 1903s.png 1903srev.png
