I like the Eagle reverse. But then I liked the eagle reverse of the 2015 silver and gold and I opted not to buy those because I didn't like the Obverse.
Now that I look at it longer... I wish the giant stars weren't there, or that they were smaller. They look added and distract from the portrait.
Hideous coin. But if the sales bomb, the value will increase in the future. Reverse is OK. This is the ugliest coin since Eleanor Roosevelt posed nude for Pablo Picasso. Picasso got drunk and gouged out his eyes.
Me too. I would have liked 13 small stars though they referenced the lady on top of capitol dome who also has large stars.
That would have been a little more interesting. Edge lettering on moderns doesn't really excite me, but if they were going to do it raised is at least a little different and innovative by their standards And they cover up Liberty
After reading this, should I be referring to myself as a European American? I think its an ugly coin.
Should one then wait for it to bomb, then scoop one up in the aftermarket and hold on to it ?? and wait ...
That coin's obverse is not aesthetically pleasing to look at. I won't mind having 2017 as a gap in my collection in this series. I'm not going to spend that much money just to fill a hole in my collection.
I'm going to find one with upside-down edge lettering and sell it for a billion dollars. If I can't find one, do you think I can just flip the coin upside-down and take a picture of it to put on eBay? I kid, I kid...
This statement is not necessarily true. There has to be demand for this coin in order for values to increase. Read through this thread... very little demand here.
Exactly. Imo most of the demand will be from people with that mindset. In a couple years there will be waaaay too many for sale
Surprisingly enough, I kind of like the coin.......given the other choices it could have been a lot worse. I don't like that the depiction of Liberty has to be such a forced narrative.....and the coin was tainted for me Immediately by the Mint Reps patting themselves on the back so vigorously! I've owned enough coins to be bored of the usual classic designs, but the Mint must realize that a coins appeal doesn't always come from the main object portrayed. The details matter! More fine lines, more depth, more unique burnishing....don't just computer render everything! With as much profit as they make, we should demand more artistry!
Does anyone know if the other world mints use this process as well? Perth, France, Australia, Canada ect have all proven to be capable of more detailed and more complex designs
They are going to be producing this as a silver medal in four different finishes one from each branch mint as well as the 225th anniversary medal set. I also agree regarding details but I don't think the mint really cares anymore. I mean these pictures aren't the best but compare the detail in these two coins which are both 1/10th oz gold. Yet somehow the mint claimed eight years after being able to mint the buffalo with such detail, that they couldn't get the small details like split bands on the merc.
