I've seen a handful of counterfeits on ebay recently with a "chip" above "PEACE" on the reverse. I almost got burned on one.
It's wild that they are counterfeiting the most common date! A lesson for any collector to always check every coin!
Wonder what the weight and dimensions would turn out to be? I've gotten fakes of common silver that were underweight, and others that were of accurate weight but about 10% thicker than expected - those were silver-plated copper, thicker to make up for copper's lower density.
Yes, the surfaces have spongy look, and the details are fuzzy. It’s like a “circulated, Mint State coin.
I hate to stomp on someone else's thread but since we are talking fakes.......... https://www.ebay.com/itm/335923174198?_skw=morgan+silver+dollar&itmmeta=01JTKSGM76GW6FF8R6BT8YP1CC&hash=item4e3694db36:gE4AAOSwOb9oBe8g&itmprp=enc:AQAKAAAA8FkggFvd1GGDu0w3yXCmi1d8XCzvXbQc8QCJS6v30v+jfUOwbbR4NmNgfMc8+nvV6plGB4ZRKHO0bQNLbs6yWtKjDV6a+Kjpw5/no4HKf94DwE1YhLzLHUwFcGOaiNZSQxWjb8kuqcZFw8dEkFuiccOxT54mHlRz5sBOPK0TGNpMrQd+uD3naoE/I9Ta8vLrZCR1iQHcuw8FF+AMondqsdQ57LHN1MqWHA8schqL1NYa0P4eHVcFS3dVK+nL7AVyKjG4qDO5cQd/xB2D6/Hcm4Lqp5+zZA9RTjSDaiC6cqklPeihvhKhe3cfE9puUx+l+g==|tkp:BFBM5MPC-dRl More than 10 available, 63 sold! WTF? Buy it now, $31.47, free shipping! I guess this follows eBay's criteria? Could be ripped off stock photos from other listings, maybe the experts can spot the fake. But common sense screams this is a scam.
The listing and surrounding details indicate scam. Avoid, of course. I honestly don't see anything wrong with the picture, though... it looks perfectly fine. Couple with the other evidence that probably means its a stolen image.
