How much out of alignment do printings have to be to be considered a collectable error? What about watermarks? If any portion of the watermark hits the window, is that normal?
That is understandable. Would something like this be considered acceptable by the mint or a collector of errors? I could care less about value, I know where I can get lunch with it. I generally know about quality control at the mint but am more trying to understand quality practices of the BEP.
I don't know much about errors, but I've got two $10 bills in my pocket right now, and both of them have watermarks that look basically the same as your photo. So I'm not sure your bill has any misalignment at all--I think that's the normal location of the watermark.
This has been discussed here before. An excerpt from Fred Bart's 4th Edition of US Paper Money Errors; "Although interesting, these minor variations attract nearly zero interest from collectors. As these watermarks variations fall within normal quality control parameters , they do not technically qualify as errors"
Would only matter if the note was valuable or rare from the start, also if the margins were the bad the grade would be affected in a negative way.
