Not willing to guess for any of the TPGs. They are all too wishy-washy from one time to the next on the same coin (let alone on how they grade different ones) That was MY grade based on the pics.
that doesn't surprise me one bit. My guess is that they were graded in order from highest grade to lowest: ICG - loosest (and I don't even know what generation) PCGS NGC - strictest
This is a coin that can be graded from AU-58 to MS-63 as well as "Details" or straight. Any one who says AU is correct as there is loss of luster (different color) from rub on the high points. It is NOT XF. Anyone who says MS is a liberal commercial grader or dealer BECAUSE this coin should bring MS money. If it were sold as AU you would leave money on the table. So MS-62 is a great guess - a technical AU worth MS money so TPGS = MS-62. Now. The coin is 100% not original. It is NOT polished. I see hairlines but nothing major. It is a coin I would not even look at because it is an "across the room "technical" AU. Now the TPGS needs to show why we use them. They need to be fair to the coin, the customer, and the next owner... no telling how knowledgeable either owner/buyer are. So the TPGS must set a value on the coin by the grade they assign. It is my guess that ICG and PCGS graded it MS and NGC graded it AU. There is a very good chance that each TPGS detailed it. THIS IS WHY EACH OF US NEEDS TO BE ABLE TO GRADE COINS BY OUR OWN STANDARDS...a slab label is just an EDUCATED GUIDE.
O-110 (the spike at the top of the cap is definitive, in conjunction with the date arrangement), and with that variety in mind the sharp collector must be prepared to factor the extreme weakness on the scroll and shield characteristic of the variety. I won't hazard a guess as to what the TPG's thought of it - I imagine some or all overlooked the variety-specific attributes - but as for myself I'd want the coin in-hand to decide if it circulated at all.
Great guess! I think I'll agree with you on NGC and PCGS; however, IMO, no way the coin would grade as low as AU-55. Cannot wait to see the results.
just to be clear, since I am the only one that even mentioned XF, I said XF details when I meant AU details with a net XF grade. I misspoke.
