Renwax On Old Tired Copper?

I picked up a hoard of old folles that I had a great time sorting and identifying (thank you @philologus_1)…. I treated them with a coating of Renwax that really put some pizazz back into the old pieces. The way I see it, they were ancients so no harm, no foul….. Say I were to treat some of my tired old copper with a light coat of Renwax. Would that be viewed as an altered surface?

I don't use it; but it is easily removable with acetone and does no harm to the surface.

 

Is it the same as Renaissance Wax? I've used it on metal detected relics... No problem except it's more like a coating.
