So here is another coin I'm looking to purchase but as I'm getting back into collecting I want to make sure my assumptions on grade and value are not too far off. My wife and I had our first child last December so that pretty much took all my time and money saved for collecting - although I'd make that trade any day. Anyways, I'm always grateful for all the advice and comments CT provides so thank you in advance.

To me this raw 1860 3 cent silver looks to be AU-50 or maybe higher. There is a rim ding at 4-5 o'clock but that's about all I can see. I offered $90 for this particular example. Am I about on point for a raw example? Any comments on grade?

Nice coin but I think more like EF40

I appreciate the feedback! Would you contribute that to the more significant wear on the reverse? I think at this point I'll leave my final bid where it is.

I would also guess in the EF area. Note an additional hit on the III and some wear or a poor strike at the rim in the lower left area on the second photo.

Also on EF 40 and $90 is retail for that coin/ year/ grade.

There are a few hits or scratches, scrapes on both sides. Not terrible but worth noting.

Don't feel like you got left out. Some people will bid to the moon and some just out of spite. Another will come along for you at "your" price.

Oh yeah I'm in no way upset, I started to regret my $90 bid haha.

This coin finally went for $176. I wonder if he/she is having buyers remorse yet.

I see it as a low-end AU50, and the sale price would be "AU53/55 in a PCGS slab" territory. The buyer's remorse won't set in until the new owner tries to liquidate. :)
