I love beefy silver coins, and when it comes to them none did it better than the Mexicans. Maybe a small exaggeration, but not much of one, because the coins speak for themselves. First one up: 1948 Cuauhtémoc 5 Pesos in NGC MS-66. Not only Ley 900 (90%), but also larger and more silver than any US silver dollar. The United States was not producing any large silver dollars anymore, so it's amazing to see our neighbor to the south producing such large silver coins that late in time. Next up is the Constitution 5 Pesos, and this one is also a stunning MS-66. Inflation had definitely taken hold of the Peso, because it is smaller and only 72% pure, but it is still a substantial coin with about as much silver as a US half dollar, but slightly bigger in size. And even by the 1960s the Mexican Mint was still producing some stunners. Check out this 1960 Hidalgo Madero 10 Pesos. Another beefy 90% silver coin. The two portraits are done quite well, and the obverse of the coin, the eagle and snake, it's a very standard affair. Feel free to show your own Mexican silver.
These are a fun series with many varieties. Don't know enough to tell you which one is yours, but they are centered around the Olympic rings. And possibly one around the snake's tongue being straight. I need to eventually get one.
This one arrived today too. Not exactly mid-century but the design elements are definitely inspired by decades earlier designs.
