Got an e-mail announcing Vault Box numero 10 is set for.................April 25 (?) at a low, low price of.............$859.00 for one slab. Business must be brisk for those folks since they just had #9 a month ago.
It's a gamble, and if you like to gamble, I guess it isn't any worse than slot machines or the lottery. However, I can think of many pretty coins I would like to add to my hobby and could without the possible downer that I would feel if I drew a run of the mill ASE or commemorative coin that many will.
Looking at the distribution list, you've got a better than 1 in 20 chance of getting a ~4g gold nugget. I wonder how many coin collectors really care about getting a minuscule chunk of gold instead of a coin.
I guess it's monetarily better than getting for example the 1898MO AM MEXICO PESO RESTRIKE NGC MS63, one of which sold on HA last May for $204. If you're in this as a gambler, yes there are worse "wins" than the gold nuggets (today at least). It just seems odd to me to have such a preponderance of gold nuggets in these things. Roughly 170 out of 3015 purchases will be one, but does anybody actually care whether the nugget came from Yukon, Australia, Montana or Sonora? Such an odd mix of specialties.
