    Hello friends,

    I need your expert opinion:

I have notices a ridge on the side of the Aelius tetradrachm recently purchased, was this common, to have a ridge on the side, or this is a fake coin?

thanks in advance for your help?

I don't like it, but I'm not ready to call it a fake. Maybe when I get home and get a better look at it.

The edge gives me pause. But the rest seems ok. Pics are ok but trying to zoom in on my phone is not ok.
I'm gonna say its ok. But don't put to much in to that. I can and have been wrong.

    Thank you Smojo,

Are ridges common for Egyptian Tetradrachms? or this is something you have not seen before?

    thanks

What has me leaning towards not ok is the line on the edge. Could be a cast line but isn't always the case.
I can't get to a laptop at this moment. But the fabric seems ok to me, I don't see any casting bubbles. But keep in mind I'm veiwing the on a g s-6.

Soft devices and lettering and an obvious seam on the edge. Not Kosher in my opinion.

Hi Aethelred, so you are leaning toward a FAKE?

The second picture you posted of the seam leads me to agree with Aethelred. Doesn't look right

I don't like it either. From image alone I would say fake. But the fact remains that YOU have your doubts and thus will always have your doubts unless you send it off to an authentication authority such as David Sear in California.

    Hi Bing,
Funny enough, I sent 2 pictures (front and back), without a side shot to HA.com, and the coin expert from Heritage told me, that this was an authentic coin (maybe because he didnt see a side shot). I am so confused, i guess i will go ahead and return it to the seller..thank you for your help
