    At this point, my guess would be authentic, but cleaned and retoned - whether the toning is natural or artificial, I doubt it would be market acceptable.

    How do you know that this “broken L” is a counterfeit? Unusually counterfeiters don’t have the expertise, patience or equipment to make a Proof counterfeit.
