Likely one of the worse fake half cents I have seen on the Bay! This one started in a family of CN counterfeits based on an 1804 C-6 variety and is the only date/ variety with the circled die chip under the "A" as noted. I actually wrote a Coin Week article on these but none looked as bad as this one! I sent a note to the seller with no apparent response and then reported through eBay's new nonexistent reporting function, taking the time to explain what is wrong with the "coin"... And I received the latest typical response from the BayBots it is OK; apparently the Bay has changed it's coin listing policy as well. The good news, the seller actually ended the auction; hard to imagine anyone would have bought it anyway ... Best, Jack.
Not sure what you mean by that. I don't see any change to their listing policy. https://www.ebay.com/help/policies/prohibited-restricted-items/replica-coins-currency-policy?id=5042
What I meant is they no longer remove bad listings, so being cynical as one who use to be able to have countless listings removed EVERYDAY they must have unofficially changed their policy...
Not that it is 100% effective, but sellers with low ratings (i.e., new) should be avoided, as is the case with most sellers located in the far east.
I think their stated listing policy has always been for show, and listening to people like you to actually remove listings was also a token effort. Now that AI is the supreme authority du jour, they're hiding behind that.
Yea, I got the "This listing does not violate our policy" email when I reported an obvious counterfeit to them. They are right. Selling counterfeits on eBay does not violate their policy. GOT IT! It's one of the many reasons why I will do nothing on eBay UNLESS I know the dealer and have bought them them in the past. In that case I often go to their website and negociate a better deal. That half cent looks like it has the measles.
