    Such combinations of words and numbers I find interesting. The big "250" is followed by the text bin lira which means "thousand lira". When the New Lira was introduced later, the term yeni lirası (new lira) was used - and I have seen questions whether "bin" means "old". Errm, no. ;)

    At the time of the Hungarian hyperinflation a similar method was used for paper money. Instead of printing many zeros, they used the words milpengő (one million pengő) and b(il)pengő (one billion pengő) to make the numbers handier ...

    I occasionally buy both German and Russian early 1900s notes. They are colourful, cheap and a great piece of history for less than a pound or two.
