I just received my 1881-CC Morgan. Only 296,000 were minted so it’s a semi-key date. My red book list this coin at $400 in VF-20. This may be a VF-25 but I’ll go with the 20. With shipping I paid less than the red book price so I’m a happy camper and I’m smiling. I now only need three more to complete my set. This was the last one I needed to plug that hole in my Whitman’s #1 folder. I’m trying to get my folders and sets competed.
Nice coin! CC Morgans are interesting for a number of reasons … the mint itself, the limited number of years of production, and survival numbers not correlating well with mintages. The ‘81CC and ‘85CC had lower mintages than the ‘89CC or ‘93CC but surviving numbers are higher. Probably has to do with which years were melted locally and which years went into storage bags until the 20th century. Cal
Dave if you need to store that Morgan book in a box….. I got plenty of room in my attic…. Just sayin’…
