This raises another question: how close is closely? A gnat’s behind or rodents’ whisker?

Bottom line: Anything less than Uncirculated is AU. Some coins show no wear but still grade AU due to poor handling, like excess contact marks or coin-to-coin abrasion.

Well.... We will see how closely my little bid gets on this closely uncirculated piece.

A couple of years ago on Ebay I saw a 1884 CC Morgan Dollar described as about "brand new".

Back in my data processing days you had to be very precise when printing payroll checks. Checks that were out of alignment had to be destroyed and payroll run again requiring all kinds of documentation. Needless to say we made sure that everything lined up perfectly. We didn't use a rodent's whisker or a gnat's behind as a unit of measurement, for us Boston University yahoos the favored unit of measurement was a pubic hair.

Almost as bad as BU and not the University either. Why don't they just say Mint State. o_O

Danomite What do you say uh-huh

This coin obviously resided next to an uncirculated coin. That’s closely, right?

You BU yahoo's missed the mark. Not far, but close. The lot of us from FPC in NH called it an RCH.

Well I was just a millwright at Montana University and the unit of measurement was a fine pussy hair

Good choice. Cat hairs are generally finer than human hairs. :angelic:

There's one eBay seller that's been using "closely uncirculated" for a while, and I've seen some Chinese fakers start to copy the term.
