Just picked up this 1963 D Washington Quarter with some cool die polishing lines in the right fields on the obverse. On the Rx I would like to confirm what I believe is a RPM. What do you think? 1963WashingtonDDo.jpg 1963WashingtonDDoClose.jpg 1963WashingtonDDr.jpg 1963WashingtonDDClose2.jpg 1963WashintonDDClose1.jpg

It doesn't match any on WWW.varietyvista.com
It could be the photos, or are you referring to the disturbed metal on each side of the MM?

I am seeing a line through the middle of the D and what I thought might be the right side of a D sticking out to the right of the D.

I think that it is Die wear that you are seeing.

Looking at the quarter obv. That is a nice die crack on the bust and a collar clash at 9 oclock.

It's possible, and I don't know if I'd so easily dismiss this as die wear... have you checked Wexler as well? The "line" you're seeing is similar to what is displayed on other known RPMs, but in itself isn't enough IMO to automatically label this one. Although your photos are quite decent, I simply cannot see the mintmark well enough see if there's anything else that would suggest it is.

@ Pickin and Grinin: Dang, how did I miss that die crack and collar clash?? Guess I was focussing on the mintmark. Thanks for the observations:) Are collar clashes a frequent occurrence Washington quarters?

@BooksB4Coins: I may have time this weekend to try some better pics. I do not have the Wexler book. It there an online resource? Is there a specific Wexler book I should be looking for?

I wasn't knocking your photos. They're very decent overall, but it's hard (for me) to see any detail in the mintmark when blown up. Someone else, perhaps using a larger screen, may have better luck.

    As for Wexler.... http://doubleddie.com/1237766.html

@BooksB4Coins: Thank you for the link!:) Also, was not thinking you were busting on the photos. It is more me not getting a photo of the mintmark as well as I would like. I have been shooting us coppers and ancient coins for the past few years. Shooting MS silver has been a whole new challenge to me. I am thinking of getting a digital microscope for super closeups.

I wouldnt call them a rarity, Infact I don't believe they carry a premium.
