I returned to work today and found my first received coin of the year.

I was a bit trepid in how this might turn out as the sellers pics were miniscule and I picked this up relatively cheap. In hand, it looks righteous - sorry for the bad pics (scans).

I do not have any coins of Theodosius, but I do have one of Theophilos.

Excellent, @dadams! And as I mentioned via PM, I think you did quite well at the price.

Ha! That's great. I'll see your "Star Wars" reverse Theodosius I AE4 and raise you a Nero dupondius with a space shuttle blasting off on the reverse of it.

(See it there, flying behind that lady and about to crash into the back of her head?) ;)

Congrats on the gold score. I like the shimmying Victory reverse :). I'll offer my only Theodosius II, a bronze with little Theo standing between his dad and uncle.

Sadly, I don't have a Theo-II to toss into your thread

I had to look and see what coin I had for Theo II in my old collection.

    Just this tiny little AE4:

That is a nice coin and not a bad image at all.

    I like the detailed reverse.

@Bing & @Alegandron - don't know if its really my thing either, but I did like the color. No focus yet :(

@Orfew that's a nice one -- I like these AE coins of his and would like to get one someday.

That's crazy but those coins look just as described!!

I really like @zumbly 's example and need to find a coin I like with that desert patina and of course @JBGood 's AV Solidus ain't bad either

Thanks everyone for the comments and I also learned something today as I had never heard of an AR Miliarense. Awesome coin @Magnus Maximus

Mine is a poor example of what has to be the most common Roman gold coin. The year (42) this was made, Theodosius had to pay the Huns 2100 pounds of gold. Was this coin part of that?
