I see two of these today I've never seen before in foreign slabs. This is a new one to me. People are bidding these up like crazy. https://www.ebay.com/itm/1269917403...PHVTpb+V2qgX61FS2DWq+xUg==|tkp:Bk9SR4qb8Z21ZQ https://www.ebay.com/itm/1165185073...1thVZtOSBXzorcEDwMCpJA0Q==|tkp:Bk9SR4ib8Z21ZQ
I realize the holders are just holders but something looks really off to me. Too damned perfect with zero bag marks but with some odd things going on in a few places on the coins, and the date font seems off. Where are our counterfeit experts here?
Yeah first time I've seen this Chinese grading company as well. The Chinese grading company is something I'd stay away from but whether the coins are fakes, idk, I'm not a Morgan guy but there are fakes being sold on the bay for $35 and change and they look similar to the graded ones you linked! https://www.ebay.com/itm/1165251901...lp:2332490&itmmeta=01JPP52PQEKZ04G4CFBWYY38NB
Actually it's not a Chinese grader, it's a slab manufactured in China. The coins could possibly be legit, but they do not look like it to me. Zero bag marks but have some suspicious spots on them you normally don't see on a genuine. Also, zero clashes you normally see on many Morgans.
The seller made certain to include "U.S. Seller" in the listing. So what? My fear is that all of these fake Morgans are being purchased here and unsuspecting individuals and dealers are passing them along without even knowing it's junk. Or maybe they do.
Frequent counterfeit seated halves on eBay. Sellers have low numbers of feedback and are located in the far east. Last one I reported, eBay ‘experts’ said was legitimate. I give up.
They almost look cast, not struck. I've noticed on a lot of the fake coins are more matte silver and don't have that luster/shine from the mint. The amount of money these people paid is wild, but due diligence is more necessary than ever thanks to things like this.
Yeah, I don't bother anymore for the same exact reason. Unless you are a known coin expert, the bots just blow us off.
eBay eventually will lose serious collectors. All of the overpriced garbage and fake coins grows all the time. What a wasteland it's becoming.
I saw this fake today at our local auction and informed them the coin is fake, weighed 5.9 and jumped onto my magnet
There's still some pretty decent reputable sellers. If anything it'll cause people to start sticking with certain sellers they know are good. I've got quite a few but I'm looking at going to a couple of local coin dealers sometime next week
One serious flaw eBay has is that you cannot block sellers you don't want to see their listings. I scroll through Page after page after page of auction loaded with mostly junk.
That is absolutely true and I love that idea, because a lot of them are getting those junk listings sponsored, leading up to people getting scammed. I’m glad the dude with the fake ‘44 steelie had his account banned, but the people who actually bid on the fake Morgans…ugh. I hope they realize when they get them that they’re not what was claimed to be
I believe if many people getting into collecting get burned on fake coins May give up the hobby entirely.
If you are pressed for time and don't want to sift through the dumpster, there are options. You can filter a search for denomination, year, mint, grade or raw if you have a specific need. It cuts 99% of the sifting out. You can also toggle whether you want to see newest listings or items set to expire or hammer first. The filters are very useful. There is a way to filter out sellers, it was explained to me, but it was so cumbersome it wasn't worth it, and I forget how it works. Access Advanced Search: From your initial search results, click on the "Advanced" link in the upper right corner. Locate the Seller Section: Scroll down to the "Seller" section on the Advanced Search page. Select "Only Show Items From" and "Exclude": Check the box next to "Only show items from" and then select "exclude". Enter Seller Usernames: Type in the usernames of the sellers you want to exclude, separated by commas, in the provided box. Search Again: Click the "Search" button to see your search results without the items from the excluded sellers. Bookmark or Save Search: If you want to continue excluding these sellers in future searches, bookmark or save the search results.
As a eBay seller and buyer for 15 years I'm aware of how to drive it. One of my favorite things to do is look at the current US coin auctions ending soonest but I've pretty much given up because there's just too much debris.
I agree. The amount of junk to wade through is tedious. I only do it when I'm bored. AI is pretty smart. The option filter "best match" will exclude a lot of trash. Why? Because you didn't bother to click on similar coins or sellers. There are several large sellers I skim right past because of their deceptive photos. Several large houses blast bright light on all their listings which hides blemishes and totally misrepresents their fodder. Sometimes when I'm really bored I go to the "unopened rolls" sellers with enders exposed to laugh at the number of bids.
